Two killed, 25 missing in France-Italy storm

Two were killed in what became known as Hurricane Alex, which swept across France and Italy. Both victims were Italian nationals. One of the dead was a member of the fire department in Asta Valley. The other was a resident of the Piedmont area. The man died when his car was swept away in the floodwaters.

At least 25 more people are missing due to the storm. Of the 25 missings, 18 were from Italy and six from France. Of Italy's 16, at least four are German mountaineers who have gone trekking in the mountains and have not returned.

The storms and floods, which began last Friday (October 2nd), are now sweeping across France and across Italy. The mayor of the French city of Nice, Christian Estrosi, told local media that it was the worst storm and flood in memory of the region. At least 100 houses have been washed away or partially destroyed along various roads.
